Holafly’s pitch is straightforward: buy an eSIM before your trip, choose how many days you need and use mobile data without nursing a small allowance. The less prominent details are that full-speed service is not guaranteed, hotspot use may be capped and standard travel plans usually provide neither a phone number nor conventional calls and texts.

The quick verdict: is Holafly worth it?
Holafly is a plausible choice for travelers who use substantial phone data and value predictable prepaid costs more than finding the lowest possible price. Its destination and regional eSIMs cover more than 200 destinations, and unlimited-data trip plans are generally available for periods from one to 90 days.
The important word there is phone. Holafly’s standard USA, Japan and Europe plans currently allow 1 GB of hotspot data per day, despite offering unlimited data on the handset itself. Someone planning to tether a laptop for hours, upload large files or replace hotel Wi-Fi may find that restrictive.
Light-data travelers may also get better value from a fixed-data eSIM or local SIM. Holafly is selling convenience and freedom from watching a data counter; it is not demonstrably the cheapest option in every country.
Best suited to: short- and medium-length trips with heavy phone use, multi-country itineraries covered by one regional product, and travelers who want service ready soon after arrival.
Less suitable for: laptop-heavy work, travelers needing local calls or outbound SMS, and anyone who uses very little mobile data.
The main Holafly benefits
The most useful Holafly benefit is its uncomplicated prepaid structure. Select a destination, choose the trip length and install the eSIM on a compatible device. There is no physical card to collect, and a correctly installed profile can provide data for maps, ride-hailing, translation and messaging after arrival.
Most prepaid destination products emphasize unlimited mobile data. That removes the usual calculation involving gigabytes, top-ups and whether one ill-advised video call will consume half the plan. Duration options of up to 90 days also let buyers match the plan more closely to a trip than products sold only in weekly or monthly blocks.
Regional plans are potentially more convenient still. Holafly’s current Europe product includes 33 listed countries, while the company also sells products for regions including Asia, Africa, the Balkans and Central America. One regional eSIM can be simpler than installing a new profile at every border.
Do not assume that geographic proximity equals inclusion, however. Check every country on the itinerary against the live coverage list. Regional agreements and country lists can change.

Unlimited data comes with fair-use and hotspot limits
Holafly unlimited data does not mean guaranteed unrestricted data at maximum speed. Its terms allow speed management under fair-use rules and according to local network conditions. Holafly says local operators may temporarily reduce speeds following high usage or during congestion; its destination guidance says a restriction may last up to one day before resetting.
Actual performance also depends on the partner network, device, terrain and congestion. Coverage can be weaker in remote, mountainous, forested or desert areas even when the country appears on the plan.
Hotspot data is treated separately. At the time checked, the USA, Japan and Europe destination pages each advertised 1 GB of shareable data per day. A seven-day plan therefore provides up to 7 GB of tethering in total, rather than an unlimited hotspot allowance. Other destinations may have different rules, so inspect the specific product page rather than relying on a general Holafly advertisement.
Standard trip eSIMs for those destinations are also data-only. They do not include a local number, traditional voice calls or outbound SMS. Apps such as WhatsApp, Signal and FaceTime can still work over data, but travelers who need a native number for bookings, business calls or verification messages should consider another product.
Holafly prices and recurring plans
Prepaid pricing varies by destination and duration. Representative official EUR prices for both the USA and Japan were €11.37 for three days, €25.50 for seven days and €68.90 for 30 days when checked. The USA page also listed €18.50 for five days, €33.90 for 10 days and €46.90 for 15 days. Holafly’s Europe plan was displayed from €3.79 for one day.
These are time-sensitive product-page prices, not permanent tariffs. Check the live selector for the exact destination and duration before paying. Holafly says applicable indirect taxes are included in its prices, although a bank may separately impose a foreign-transaction or cross-border fee.
Frequent travelers can instead consider Holafly Plans, its monthly subscription products. Current listed prices are:
- Light: €45.95 per month for 25 GB
- Unlimited: €59.95 per month
- Ultra: €84.90 per month
The current Plans page advertises coverage in more than 160 destinations. Unlimited and Ultra include unlimited hotspot use and a virtual US, Canadian or UK number for inbound SMS. That number does not support normal voice calls or outbound texts, and some banks or online services may reject it for verification. Messages are received through the Holafly app or associated email rather than the phone’s usual SMS inbox.
These subscriptions should not be confused with ordinary destination eSIMs: buying a standard Holafly international eSIM does not provide the same number or hotspot features.

Compatibility and setup: what to check before buying
Holafly requires an eSIM-compatible, carrier-unlocked phone. Device support alone is not enough: a handset originally supplied by a mobile carrier may remain locked even if the model normally accepts eSIMs.
- Dial *#06# and look for an EID, or check the settings menu for an Add eSIM option.
- On an iPhone, open Settings > General > About and check that Network Provider Lock says No SIM restrictions.
- Confirm the exact model on Holafly’s current compatibility list before purchasing.
Installation requires a stable internet connection. Holafly provides app-based, QR-code and manual installation methods. A cautious setup sequence is:
- Install the profile shortly before departure while connected to reliable Wi-Fi.
- Label the eSIM clearly so it is not confused with the regular mobile line.
- Keep the travel line switched off, or keep its data roaming disabled, until needed.
- At the destination, select Holafly for mobile data and enable data roaming on that line.
- Prevent the home SIM from taking over mobile data if avoiding roaming charges is the goal.
Avoid installing unnecessarily early. Holafly warns that iOS 16.4 and newer may combine installation and activation, and a regional plan may begin if it connects to a supported network before the intended trip date.
APN settings are normally automatic. If Holafly support instructs an iPhone or Samsung user to configure them manually, its current guide specifies Global in the APN fields. Do not delete the eSIM as a first troubleshooting step: an installed trip profile generally cannot be transferred or reinstalled without a replacement.
Coverage, support and refunds
Holafly uses local partner networks rather than operating a global mobile network of its own. Destination pages identify current partners—for example, AT&T and T-Mobile in the USA and KDDI and SoftBank in Japan. Check that section before buying, particularly when visiting rural areas or places where one operator is known to have better local coverage. Partner arrangements can change, and a listed network is not a guarantee of service everywhere.
Support is advertised as available 24/7 through the Holafly app or website chat, WhatsApp at +1 661 384 8482 and email at help@holafly.com.
Refunds are conditional rather than guaranteed. Requests can currently be made for up to six months after purchase, but eligibility depends on factors including activation, usage, device compatibility, the reason for failure and supporting evidence. A full change-of-plans refund generally requires an unused, unactivated plan.
If the eSIM fails during the trip, contact support while the problem is occurring. Holafly says a refund cannot be guaranteed when a traveler waits until after returning home. Depending on usage and circumstances, it may offer a full or partial refund, and some cases may carry a US$3.50 administrative fee. Published processing estimates vary, so rely on the timing given with the actual refund confirmation.

Who should choose Holafly—and who should look elsewhere?
Holafly makes sense when:
- You expect heavy phone-data use and do not want to monitor a fixed allowance.
- You want a plan matched to the number of travel days.
- A listed regional product covers every stop on your itinerary.
- You mainly use internet-based calling and messaging apps.
- You value arranging connectivity before departure more than chasing the cheapest local deal.
Consider an alternative when:
- You need extensive laptop tethering or a guaranteed high-speed connection for work.
- You require a local phone number, conventional calls or outbound SMS.
- You use little data and could buy a smaller fixed allowance.
- A local SIM offers more useful voice, number or hotspot features for your destination.
- Your phone is carrier-locked or does not support eSIM.
Before paying, check five items on the relevant destination page: included countries, partner networks, hotspot allowance, plan duration and whether the product is data-only. That quick inspection is more useful than treating “unlimited” as the complete specification.
Holafly’s strongest case is convenience: flexible trip lengths, unlimited data on the phone and country or regional options arranged before departure. Its weaker points are equally clear. Full-speed performance remains subject to fair-use rules, standard hotspot allowances can be limited, and most destination plans do not provide a number or traditional mobile service.
